Overview
Iowa State University is transitioning to a new Sign On Dashboard for multifactor authentication and application dashboard in August 2024. During this transition, there will be a number of efforts to prepare for the migration. This phase of the project prepares the MFA information in the Okta Sign On Dashboard for migration to the new Microsoft Sign On Dashboard.
Schedule & Timeline
Late 2024:
- Access to the Okta Sign On Dashboard will be removed for everyone. The Microsoft Sign On Dashboard tool is available.
Fall 2024
- Complete application migration from Okta to Microsoft.
- Both the Microsoft and Okta Sign On Dashboards will be available.
- The Okta Sign On Dashboard should be used as a reference to customize your Microsoft Sign On Dashboard.
September 2024
- The Microsoft Sign On Dashboard will be available to all of campus and will be the preferred MFA provider. Login.iastate.edu will direct you to the Microsoft Sign On Dashboard.
- Window for users to review and update sign in factors before migration.
- Complete migration from Okta to Microsoft for multifactor authentication and Sign On Dashboard.
- Transition multifactor authorization and dashboard from Okta to Microsoft.
August 2024
- Users’ MFA factors will be transferred to the Microsoft Sign On Dashboard. Beginning August 8, 2024, the project team begins MFA information from Okta into Microsoft.
- Students, faculty and staff will be required to have more than one MFA factor.
- Begin application migration from Okta to Microsoft.
July 2024
- All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review and update their MFA methods, making sure they have either SMS text or voice call as well as password reset contact information set up.
Important Details
Password Reset
A new feature available with the new Sign On Dashboard is the ability to reset your password at any time without needing to contact the IT Solution Center.
App Password Management
Saving passwords in your Sign On Dashboard is no longer an option. You can still access Okta to retrieve passwords to apps saved in the old Sign On Dashboard. Moving those passwords to a secure password manager like LastPass or NordPass is strongly encouraged.
Login Requires Full Email
When Okta was first implemented, the system was customized to allow anyone signing in to use only their Net-ID. With the move away from Okta, this feature will also go away. As part of this transition, beginning Tuesday, July 23, all users will use their full email address (Net-ID@iastate.edu) when logging in to Iowa State services.
