Sunsetting Mainframe

Project Overview

The university's mainframe has been in production for more than 60+ years starting around the 1960s. With physical hardware and computing equipment, its purpose was to process and safeguard essential university data at scale, long before today’s distributed servers, cloud platforms, and modern enterprise systems became available. With the purchase of Workday replacing a large number of programs, use cases for the mainframe are  reduced. This includes ADIN and AccessPlus systems. As a result, the mainframe will be strategically decomissioned.

Project Update

Current status: Archival of essential, historical data.

Project Details

Archiving data is in the final steps and will complete the system backup to allow the Workday systems to be the system of record. Human resources, payroll, student systems and finance are currently available on Workday.

Content Management will stay in place with access being through Single Sign On systems instead of the AccessPlus systems. The project team has identified the E-reports that will be moved into the content management system for future usage. Some historical data will be available through Power BI reports.

File transfer via AccessPlus will no longer be available.  A new process for all file transfers will be established.
