Welcome to the 2023 fall semester! Students participating in Clone Quest during Destination Iowa State had the opportunity to submit their technology questions to ITS. Below are the top 50 questions and answers to help ISU students learn about Iowa State technology.

If you are joining Wi-Fi on your laptop, tablet or phone, connect to the "eduroam" network. You're also welcome to use a wired "ethernet" connection if your dorm room allows.

No, all students receive 1000 print credits at the start of each semester, no matter their major. If you run low, you can request more at no-cost.

Bring your device to the IT Solution Center, located in Parks Library. They can help you troubleshoot this issue.

You can see your print credit balance when printing from an ISU computer, like in the library. A pop-up will appear. You can also add the "PaperCut MF" app to your Sign On Dashboard, read these instructions. When opening the app, you'll see a dashboard with your print credit balance.

This may be caused by the significant increase in network traffic. During summer, it's primarily Iowa State employees connecting to campus internet. In August we add about 30,000 students connecting to the networks. Connectivity will improve as the network load regulates. In the meantime, you can try these troubleshooting tips.

It's called "zenbooth" and is one of the library's low-distraction nearly soundproof spaces. Use it for a private call or videochat.

You can access your Iowa State University email by opening Outlook on your Sign On Dashboard. You can also download the Outlook app to your desktop. Then send away!

If your computer physically breaks - you crack your screen, you spill pop on your keyboard - take it to TechCyte in the ISU BookStore.

Depends on what you want to do…but the apps you'll use the most are probably Outlook and Canvas.

Yes, students can checkout laptops through Tech Lending in Parks Library.

Ethernet, otherwise known as wired internet, requires that a cable connects your laptop to a wall jack. Students are responsible for supplying their own ethernet cords. If you live in Eaton Hall, Martin Hall or Frederiksen Court, you also need to fill out this form to activate the wall jack.

Most technology can be checked out for 14 days.

Yes, you can rent calculators from Tech Lending - the TI-84 Plus and TI-BA II Plus.

You can print to a campus printer from an ISU computer (like in Parks Library) or your own laptop. Learn more on the ITS Printing on Campus webpage.

You can rent a laptop at the library's Tech Lending webpage.

Your U-Bill is located in AccessPlus. Log into AccessPlus through your Sign On Dashboard at login.iastate.edu.

Go to the ISU Service Portal for technology how-to articles. You can access the ISU Service Portal from your Sign On Dashboard, login.iastate.edu. For help with an IT technician, contact the IT Solution Center by calling 515-294-4000, submitting a help ticket, or visiting 192 Parks Library.

For players, it can be considered taunting and lead to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 9 p.m.

The MyState app may be experiencing some delays due to heavy use and network traffic. Things should be back to normal soon.

Campus Wi-Fi relies on equipment called "acess points" that project a Wi-Fi signal to designated areas. There are MANY access points all across campus.

Your Net-ID is the first part of your Iowa State email address. If you forgot your Net-ID, call the IT Solution Center at 515-294-4000 for assistance.

As long as you take good care of the technology checked out for Tech Lending, you'll have no issues. If equipment is more than 2 days late, you may lose borrowing privileges. If equipment breaks beyond repair, is stolen, or you lose it, you are responsible for both replacement charges and processing fees. If the cost to replace an item is greater than $500, the processing fee is $100. If it's less than $500, the fee is $25. 

If you are joining Wi-Fi on your laptop, tablet or phone, connect to the "eduroam" network. Be sure to enter your FULL ISU email and password. Then trust the certificate if prompted.

Parts of Iowa State experienced a power outage during the 2020 derecho. Like then, ITS has a plan to communicate with campus and work with the right teams to get systems back online.

Finals for the fall 2023 semester are December 11 - 14.

You can add the PaperCut MF app to your Sign On Dashboard to see your print credit balance. You can also submit a request for more print credits in the ISU Service Portal.

To log into your Iowa State email, go to your Sign On Dashboard at login.iastate.edu. Sign in with your Net-ID and password. Then, click the Outlook app to open your email.

You can check grades during the semester within the Canvas app. You can also ask your instructor about your current grade, too.

There are A LOT of outlets in the library for charging devices, many built right into tables or other study spaces.

You can borrow laptops, tablets, cameras, camera accessories, sound systems, adapters, cables and more.

If your computer crashes during class and you need it to complete class activities, let your instructor know. To make sure your laptop doesn't die during class, always pack your charging cable.
