Overview
Iowa State University provides multiple options to connect to the data network for students, faculty, and staff.

Wireless
Wireless access to the data network is available to students, faculty, and staff in central campus green space, most campus buildings, public areas of residence halls, and on-campus residence hall rooms. Guest access is also available.
Ethernet
Iowa State University provides a high-speed data network accessed through duplex jacks that support both Ethernet (data) and voice services. These jacks are located in classrooms, offices, laboratories, and residence halls. Students living off-campus need to find a third-party internet service provider and must use VPN to access the campus network.
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)
DSL is an always-on network connection operating at speeds up to 20Mbps. DSL service provides students in Schilletter and University Village (SUV) apartments with a direct connection to the campus network with full access to the Internet.
Requirements
- Your computer or other device must be equipped with an Ethernet adapter (for Ethernet access) or wireless adapter (for wireless access). Most new devices come with Ethernet and wireless adapters already installed. If yours does not, adapters are available for purchase at Tech CYte in the University Book Store or at other computer retailers.
- All Schilletter and University Village units are equipped with the required DSL modem, DSL power supply, telephone cord (14 ft), and telephone filter (usage optional).
Rates
Wireless and Ethernet are common good services available to ISU students on campus at no charge. DSL service is included in SUV apartment rates and is activated upon move in.
The following rates apply to faculty, staff, and department installations and services.

* These services have one-time installation fee of $50 ($35 for Ethernet switches). Installations may require time and material charges when additional work is necessary. Large orders involving more than 10 installs and/or moves (Ethernet service in same building at same time) will be billed at the rate of $50 per endpoint for the first 10 and $30 for each additional.
