Lynda.com Tutorials
Lynda.com is an online repository of video tutorials and project files that cover a broad range of both commercial and open-source software packages from leading vendors and community projects.
Student computer fees, administered by the Computation Advisory Committee funded a grant for a site license that allows any computer that is part of the Iowa State University network to have free access to all the material on lynda.com. Access is provided on a trial basis and will end at the conclusion of the grant in 2012.
On Campus Access
To access the tutorials from any computer on campus, simply enter the following URL into the address bar on your web browser: http://iplogin.lynda.com. As long as you are working on campus, you can access the tutorials from this address.
Off Campus Access
To access the tutorials from Lynda.com from off campus, you must go through the university's Virtual Private Network client (VPN), following the steps outlined below. This procedure works with Internet Explorer or Firefox for Windows machines, or Safari or Firefox for Mac machines. If you currently have the VPN AnyConnect client installed on your computer, make sure you are not signed in to the network before completing these steps:

Open your browser and go to https://vpn.iastate.edu and sign in with your Net-ID and password.
If you do not have the VPN client installed on your computer, the download process will start as soon as you log in.
If prompted with a security warning for the digital certificate, click "Run", "Allow", or "Trust." (You will need to complete this step regardless if you have the current VPN client or not.)
The download and installation may take a few minutes, so be patient and allow the system to complete the process. Once you have installed the software, the process will be much quicker in subsequent sessions.

Once the download and installation is complete, you are connected to the campus network and can access Lynda.com by entering the on-campus address "http://iplogin.lynda.com" into the address field of the Cisco SSL VPN Service page. (Do not attempt to enter the address into the browser's address bar, as this will not work.)
On the main page at Lynda.com you will see a welcome screen that says, "Welcome back, IP Program user." This page may take a few moments to load, so be patient and wait until it is fully loaded. Once this page is fully loaded, you will have access to all of the training tutorials and exercise files on this site.
