When you are logged in to Outlook, your messages are transferred from the voice mail server to your email inbox periodically. Once they are transferred to your inbox, you cannot access your messages by phone. If you are not logged in to Outlook, your messages stay on the voice mail server, and you can access them by phone.
There is an option in Outlook to leave messages on voice mail and download them to email. When this is configured, your message waiting light will stay lit until you call into voice mail to access your message, regardless of whether you have received them in email. Your messages will then stay on voice mail until you delete it through the voice mail system. (They are automatically deleted after 14 days.)
