Use a Multi-or-Single-Line Telephone (Faculty & Staff)

This information will help faculty and staff on campus use the following features of university-owned multi-line or single-line telephones.

Alerting Rings

  • Single Ring – indicates the call is from an on-campus extension
  • Double Ring - indicates the call is call from off-campus or operator
  • Triple Ring - indicates an automatic callback call

Auto Dial Button (Multi-Line only)

Press an AUTO DIAL button to automatically dial the number stored there.

To program:
  1. LISTEN for dial tone
  2. PRESS PROGRAM or * O
  3. PRESS AUTO DIAL
  4. ENTER number up to 20 digits
  5. PRESS AUTO DIAL
  6. LISTEN for confirmation tone

Automatic Callback (Available for calls from campus extensions only)

Use to receive callback on busy or unanswered calls.

To activate (Single-line):
  1. PRESS recall, switchhook or flash
  2. PRESS * 5
To activate (Multi-line):
  • PRESS AUTOMATIC CALLBACK

After activating:

  1. LISTEN for confirmation tone, hang up (When the line is free, your telephone will ring with a triple ring.)
  2. LIFT handset
  3. LISTEN for system to ring busy extension
To cancel:
  1. LISTEN for dial tone
  2. PRESS # 5
  3. LISTEN for confirmation tone - hang up

Callback cancels if:

  1. You do not answer the triple ring within 20 seconds,
  2. Your line is busy for approximately 30 minutes, or
  3. Your called extension is busy for approximately 30 minutes.

Calls may be placed and received during callback period.

Call Forwarding

Activate Call Forwarding when you want your calls to ring on a different campus extension.

To activate:
  1. LISTEN for dial tone
  2. PRESS * 2
  3. CALL campus extension to which you want calls forwarded
  4. LISTEN for confirmation tone
To cancel:
  1. LISTEN for dial tone
  2. PRESS # 2
  3. LISTEN for confirmation tone - hang up

Call Park

Park a call at your extension for retrieval from any extension.

To activate (Single-line):
  1. PRESS R or switchhook or flash
  2. LISTEN for recall dial tone
  3. PRESS * 6 (the call is parked at your extension) hang up
  4. Note: To return to parked call before you hang up, PRESS R or flash or switchhook again.
To activate (Multi-line):
  • PRESS CALL PARK – hang up
To retrieve parked call from any extension:
  1. PRESS # 6
  2. CALL the extension where the call is parked

Call Pick-up

Use call pick-up to answer another telephone in your call pick-up group.

  1. LISTEN for dial tone
  2. PRESS # 4 - answer call

Conference Calls

Place a conference call for up to three parties (Single-line) or six parties (Multi-line).

To activate:
  1. ASK party to hold
  2. PRESS recall or switchhook or flash (Single-line); PRESS CONFERENCE (Multi-line)
  3. LISTEN for dial or confirmation tone
  4. CALL next number - announce conference call
  5. PRESS recall or switchhook or flash (Single-line); PRESS CONFERENCE (Multi-line)
  6. REPEAT above steps to add more parties (Multi-line)
To drop busy signal, unanswered call, or the last party:
  • PRESS recall or switchhook or flash (Single-line); PRESS DROP (Multi-line)

Hold

  1. ASK party to hold
  2. PRESS recall or switchhook or flash (Single-line); PRESS HOLD (green light flashes next to line button where call appears – Multi-line)
  3. LISTEN for confirmation tone (Single-line)
To return to held call:
  • PRESS recall or switchhook or flash (Single-line); PRESS appearance of held call (Multi-line)
To hold and consult:
  1. ASK party to hold
  2. PRESS recall or switchhook or flash (Single-line); PRESS HOLD (Multi-line)
  3. LISTEN for recall dial tone (Single-line)
  4. CALL second party and consult
  5. After second party hangs up, you are automatically reconnected to the first party (Single-line); PRESS appearance of held call (Multi-line)

Last Number Dialed

  • PRESS # 9

Send All Calls

Activate Send All Calls when you want your calls to go immediately to coverage.

To activate:
  1. LISTEN for dial tone (Single-line)
  2. PRESS * 3
  3. LISTEN for dial or confirmation tone - hang up
To cancel:
  1. LISTEN for dial tone
  2. PRESS # 3
  3. LISTEN for dial or confirmation tone - hang up

Transfer

Transfer to an on-campus or local number.

  1. ASK party to hold
  2. PRESS recall or switchhook or flash (Single-line); PRESS TRANSFER (Multi-line)
  3. LISTEN for confirmation tone (Single-line)
  4. CALL number - announce call
  5. HANG UP (Single-line); PRESS 2nd TRANSFER (Multi-line)
  6. PRESS DROP or hang up (Multi-line)
  7. Note: Calls will not transfer to long distance numbers.
