Set Up DSL

The following information will help you get connected to the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) in Schilletter and University Village Apartments.

Before beginning these steps, insure your computer or device has an Ethernet adapter. You will also need an Ethernet cable, which can be purchased at TechCYte or other computer retailers. A DSL modem and power supply, telephone cord and optional telephone filter are also required, and are provided in each apartment.

  1. Connect the modem to the jack where your telephone is currently connected using the 6-conductor DSL interface cable included in the kit.
  2. Connect devices to the modem:
    1. To connect your computer directly to the modem: Plug the Ethernet cable into the appropriate jack on the back of your computer. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the modem LAN jack.
    2. To connect an Ethernet switch box to the modem: Plug the Ethernet cable into the first available jack on the switch box. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the modem LAN jack.
    3. To connect a router to the modem: Plug the Ethernet cable into the Internet/WAN Port on the router box. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the modem LAN jack.
  3. To use a landline telephone, connect the plug from your telephone set to the modem phone jack. If you have a second telephone elsewhere in the apartment and hear noises on the line, connect the optional telephone filter to the wall jack, then plug the line going into the telephone into the filter.
  4. Connect the power supply to the modem and to the power outlet.
