WebCT System Maintenance

The WebCT system will be shutdown Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 7:00 a.m. (CDT) through 8:30 a.m. (CDT) for database updates. These updates are critical for the continued growth and use of the WebCT system. During this time, students, teaching assistants, instructors, and designers will not be able to access WebCT for Iowa State academic courses, administrative departmental courses, or special projects. Service will return once the maintenance is complete. Check back here for updates.

Campus Backbone Network Maintenance

The Iowa State University campus backbone will be upgraded to aid in the addition of new network services.

While no actual Internet or campus network outage is anticipated and backup/back-out plans have been developed, there is a small chance of campus backbone outage. In such an unlikely event, inter-building campus and Internet traffic may be disrupted for up to two hours during this maintenance window.

While users should be prepared for network services to be unavailable during the entire outage, no actual network down-time is anticipated.

Exchange Services Transfer

One of the final steps in the implementation of ITS� Exchange 2007 service is to move Outlook Web Access (OWA), Outlook Anywhere, Secure IMAP, and Exchange ActiveSync from the Exchange 2003 environment to the Exchange 2007 environment.

During this configuration change, clients may see a short delay when connecting to these services, as well as a different interface to the Outlook Web Access page. Entourage users with a profile pointing to �exchange.iastate.edu� may notice a slight outage. Entourage should handle this redirection properly once the change is completed.

As of 8 PM on Wednesday, IT Services was notified of a cable TV outage. This service is supplied by Mediacom in cooperation with Iowa State. Mediacom is aware of the outage and is working on a resolution.

Due to scheduled system maintenance with campus firewalls and virtual machines, the Papercut printing system may be unavailable to customers Sunday October 25, from 7AM to 9AM. Printing to public campus printers may not work.

AccessPlus E-Reports issues (Resolved)

The server controlling e-reports in AccessPlus has been having intermittent access issues.

If you receive an error when attempting to access an e-report, wait 10-15 minutes and then try again. The system should allow access then.

Update at 9:48 am: WebCT Oracle server is experiencing problems and is rebooting.

Update at 9:18 am: WebCT servers have been rebooted.

WebCT is currently experiencing an outage. There has been a problem with 2 servers communicating but the servers are restarting now. Reboot time is unknown.

The software in the machine room router, B06SR1, at 6:00 pm, Monday, October 19. This is an emergency maintenance procedure in response to the earlier outage earlier this afternoon. Estimated total downtime is unknown.

IT Services has received a number of calls about possible network troubles affecting Student Health as well as the Administrative Services Building (ASB) starting at 1:50pm, Monday, October 19th.

Service is restored as of 2:30pm. One of the switches providing access to these services will be going an emergency maintenance window to prevent future outages. Information for that window will be posted when it is scheduled.
